Girard Street Bridge

Hands Across the Bridge

Sunday, April 20, 2008

The district in which Vanessa is running is the 190th.  It is - like many districts in Philadelphia - extremely gerrymandered (pdf of district).  It includes parts of West Philadelphia, South Philadelphia AND North Philadelphia.  Many of folks in the North Philadelphia part of the district have not known who their state representative is because the bulk of the district is in West Philly.

Vanessa intends to change this.  The 190th district is a very struggling and impoverished district that needs to have everyone - regardless of geography - working together to make prosperity possible.  That is why we are doing a Hands Across the Bridge Action on Sunday, April 20th from 3- 4pm, with supporters lining the Girard Ave Bridge which connects North Philadelphia with West Philadelphia.  This human chain across the bridge will link the West and North Philadelphia communities of the 190th district and symbolize the commitment of Vanessa, supporters and voters to the entire District.

DATE:           Sunday, April 20th

WHEN:          3 - 4 pm

WHERE:       Girard Ave Bridge (linking West and North Philadelphia)

WHAT:          Hands Across the Bridge Action - A human chain connecting North and West symbolizing hope and unity despite geography.
